Why your iPhone photos are HEIC
Since iOS 11 (2017), iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), which uses HEVC compression. A HEIC photo takes roughly half the space of a JPG at the same quality, which is great for iPhone storage, but many Windows PCs, Android phones, government portals and job sites do not accept it.
